* Deal properly with the user enabling any optional/addon kernel modules....When the user loads a non-system squashfs module (for instance from the optional or addons subdirectories) and this contains kernel modules, then the kernel must be made aware using a "depmod -a" call. The previous implementation did this at the end of rc.local but that was too late in the boot process: the kernel needs to be aware of the new modules straight from the start, so that udev can enable the hardware which is supported by these new kernel drivers on time. So the depmod call was moved to the live init script (inside the initrd). Eric Hameleers2016-06-152-17/+17
* liveinit: use boot parameter "nop=wipe" to erase existing persistent data....Sometimes your Slackware Live develops issues because the persistent data storage is conflicting with new packages or data which you added to the Live OS. This can be fixed by erasing persistent data, thereby reverting the Live OS to its initial state - i.e. when the USB stick was booted for the first time. For this purpose the functionality of the existing "nop" boot parameter was extended to allow the '=' and specifying a value of 'wipe'. Note that the persistent data will be wiped before the Live OS boots, and it does not matter if you are using a persistence directory or a container file for storing persistent data. This wipe includes all your persistent personal data in /home/ unless you have moved your /home into a container file on the USB stick. Eric Hameleers2016-06-151-0/+16
* liveinit: DEBUG=4 dumps you into a debug shell right before the switch_root....After doing your debug checks you can then type "exit" to exit the debug shell. The init script will continue with the switch_root and boot the OS. Eric Hameleers2016-06-151-2/+3
* On 32bit, use the non-SMP kernel by default....You can define SMP32="YES" in the script or in its .conf file, if you want your Live ISO to boot the 32bit SMP kernel instead. Eric Hameleers2016-06-101-2/+2
* iso2usb.sh: use "isoinfo" instead of "iso-info"....It appears that other distros do not always contain "iso-info" which is part of "libcdio". The "isoinfo" program ion the other hand, which is part of "cdrtools" is more widely used. Eric Hameleers2016-06-081-3/+2
* VERSION bump to 1.0.2. Eric Hameleers2016-06-031-1/+1
* Add the 'live' user account to additonal groups "dialout,games,disk"....The "dialout" group is required for working with 3G USB modems and ppp connections. If the user wants to play UNIX games, then the "games" group membership is needed. And "disk" group was added for good measure. Eric Hameleers2016-06-031-1/+1
* XFCE: do not copy optional/ or addons/ content into the XFCE ISO....We need to maintain strict size requirements to keep the maximum size of the XFCE ISO below 737.280.000 bytes (703 MB) so that it fits on CDROM. You can always add optional/addons modules later if you create a USB Live medium out of the ISO. Eric Hameleers2016-05-291-8/+11
* Some cosmetic cleanups. Eric Hameleers2016-05-292-10/+9
* make_slackware_live.sh: add "-X" switch to generate the ISO with xorriso....For some people, an ISO generated with xorriso instead of using mkisofs/isohybrid is more compatible with other tools or hardware. You need to install xorriso separately, it is not included with Slackware. Eric Hameleers2016-05-292-26/+59
* Silence a (harmless) error during network boot....We bind-mount /run if we started dhcpcd - so it can not be un-mounted at the end of the init. Eric Hameleers2016-05-291-1/+1
* VERSION bump to 1.0.1. Eric Hameleers2016-05-281-1/+1
* Ensure that a PXE-booted Slackware Live will shutdown properly....In case of network boot, do not kill the network, umount NFS prematurely or stop udevd on shutdown. Eric Hameleers2016-05-281-0/+10
* XFCE: take into account that the 32bit ISO does not contain a SMP kernel....In order to successfully generate a 32bit ISO of the small XFCE variant, the variable SMP32 needs to be set to "NO" because the package for the SMP kernel will not be added (due to size constraints). Example commandline to achieve this: SMP32=NO ./make_slackware_live.sh -d XFCE -a i586 Eric Hameleers2016-05-271-1/+5
* slackpkg+: my package repository is no longer hosted on taper but on bear....The URLs mentioning 'taper' instead of 'bear' will still work because the webserver on taper will do automatic redirection to bear. Eric Hameleers2016-05-191-3/+3
* README.txt: the git repository is no longer hosted on taper but on bear. Eric Hameleers2016-05-181-2/+2
* README.txt: small fixes to sync this document with the Wiki version. Eric Hameleers2016-05-181-5/+7
* Git rid of a (harmless) error message during boot. Eric Hameleers2016-05-181-4/+8
* Slackware Live Edition: version 1.0.0....I think this 'liveslak' product is in a pretty stable state now. 1.0.0 Eric Hameleers2016-05-171-1/+1
* Call 'depmod' when a loaded optional/addon contains kernel modules. Eric Hameleers2016-05-172-4/+18
* Fix logic errors in 'if' statements when looking for wildcard files. Eric Hameleers2016-05-171-3/+3
* README.txt: mention the new 'ssh' tweak....Allows the user to start the SSH server, now that it is disabled by default. Eric Hameleers2016-05-171-0/+1
* Disable the SSH daemon by default and use a tweak to start it on demand....The passwords for users 'live' and 'root' are easy to guess. When you use the Slackware Live Edition on a public network, you do not want people to use an exposed SSH login. If you still want to have the SSH daemon enabled on boot, use the 'tweak' boot parameter and provide a 'ssh' value as follows: "tweak=ssh" This can be combined with other tweaks of course, all comma-separated. Eric Hameleers2016-05-172-1/+6
* Update the syslinux and grub help files with the new 'tweaks' option. Eric Hameleers2016-05-142-4/+8
* Bump VERSION to 0.9.1. Eric Hameleers2016-05-131-1/+1
* README.txt: added 'tweaks' boot parameter and deprecated 'nga' boot parameter. Eric Hameleers2016-05-131-2/+4
* liveinit: deprecate "nga" boot parameter and add "tweaks" parameter instead....The functionality of the old "nga" parameter is now implemented as a "tweak". Tweaks are customizations that cater to specific hardware needs. Syntax: tweaks=tweak1[,tweak2,[,...]] Example: tweaks=nga,tpb Currently implemented tweaks: - nga => no glamor acceleration (X.Org tweak). - tpb => enable TrackPoint scrolling while holding down middle mouse button. - syn => start the syndaemon for better support of Synaptics touchpads. Eric Hameleers2016-05-131-11/+68
* makemod: add interactive mode (-i switch) to prevent overwriting module file....Default behaviour of makemod is to overwrite the destination squashfs module without asking. When adding the '-i' switch to the 'makemod' command, the script will ask explicitly whether it is allowed to overwrite an existing file. Also added is a '-h' switch which shows help on using the script. Bugfix: add "-noappend" to the squashfs command in the script to avoid adding new data to an existing squashfs module. Eric Hameleers2016-05-131-3/+55
* Fixes for the broken 'load/noload' boot parameters and rootcopy location....Provided by GigglesUK, thanks. Eric Hameleers2016-05-123-7/+6
* README.txt: fixes and updates. Eric Hameleers2016-05-061-12/+19
* iso2usb.sh: script should be able to run on older OS-es too. Eric Hameleers2016-05-061-2/+6
* Slackware Live Edition: version 0.9.0....And it is ready for a stable 1.0.0 version if no further bugs are uncovered. 0.9.0 Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-1/+1
* README.txt: suggest 'toram' boot parameter when running a PXE server. Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-0/+2
* Without 'fsid' option nfsd refuses to export the filesystem if it is RAM based....The number '14' used in the script could be any (unique) low-range number. Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-1/+3
* pxeserver: minor polishing. Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-2/+2
* liveinit: allow PXE server to work even when the Live media is copied to RAM. Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-6/+14
* iso2usb.sh: show some progress info when copying files from ISO to USB. Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-2/+7
* XFCE: routed is needed for the PXE server....Packages added: + netkit-ftp + netkit-routed Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-0/+2
* README.txt: update the documentation for the new PXE server functionality. Eric Hameleers2016-05-053-0/+60
* Add PXE server infrastructure....See the README.txt for instructions on how to use the 'pxeserver' script and what it can do for you. Eric Hameleers2016-05-052-0/+731
* Silence one "cd -". Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-1/+1
* liveinit: when network-booting, add MAC address as suffix to the hostname....This default behaviour can be prohibited by applying an extended 'hostname' boot parameter as follows: hostname=your_custom_hostname,fixed The qualifier 'fixed' after the comma will prevent the hostname from being changed to something else than 'your_custom_hostname'. Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-1/+20
* SYSLINUX: add a 'clear screen' command at the top of the syslinux message....Results in a nicer looking welcome screen when you boot the Live OS without the graphical syslinux menu. Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-1/+1
* XFCE: add some network tools, remove some entertainment (to stay below 703MB)....Added packages: + bind + dnsmasq + idnkit + traceroute Removed packages: - xfractint - xlockmore - xmms The XFCE ISO has xaos as alternative to xfractint. The xlockmore program is not used anyway (we have xscreensaver). XMMS was a hard call but there's audacious still. In return, you get useful stuff like nslookup and host, and dnsmasq is required by the PXE server (soon to be added). Eric Hameleers2016-05-052-3/+7
* Update the 'timeconfig' script in make_slackware_live.sh, not in liveinit. Eric Hameleers2016-04-292-2/+9
* Do not specify heads/sectors when calling "isohybrid -u"....The resulting ISO will boot on real hardware as well as in virtualizers like QEMU, VirtualBox and VMWare Player, despite the warning shown by isohybrid that the ISO has more than 1024 cilynders and not all BIOSes will be able to boot it. Specifying sectors/heads to stay "standard compliant" will generate ISO files that fail to boot in VirtualBox if the ISO filesize is larger than roughly 1 GB, spitting out the error "VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED". Eric Hameleers2016-04-271-17/+1
* Deal with custom timezones (non-UTC) in KDE4 and PLASMA5. Eric Hameleers2016-04-272-0/+30
* Update syslinux & grub help files with latest boot parameter info. Eric Hameleers2016-04-245-3/+40
* Fix the package list for PLASMA5. Eric Hameleers2016-04-241-2/+1
* make_slackware_live.sh: accept custom ISO filename without full pathname. Eric Hameleers2016-04-241-3/+3
